Join the New York Zero-to-Three Network for the:
Hedi Levenback Evening with an Innovator
A special evening honoring a leader and innovator in the field of early childhood.
Join us in honoring Dr. Sima Gerber
Each year, the New York Zero to Three Network, in memory of a founding Board Member, Hedi Levenback, honors an innovator in the field of infancy and early childhood. This year, we are paying tribute to Dr. Sima Gerber.
Children’s communication is an essential pathway of knowing and being known by another. Dr. Gerber has studied this pathway for over 50 years and taught countless others about how children make and express meaning to others through language.
Sima Gerber, Ph.D., CCC, is a Professor and Associate Chair of Speech-Language Pathology in the Department of Linguistics and Communication Disorders of Queens College, City University of New York. As a speech-language pathologist, she has specialized in the treatment of children with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental challenges.
Dr. Gilbert Foley will interview Dr. Gerber on the arc of her work, including the unique communication challenges of children on the autism spectrum and her (with a colleague) recent launch of an assessment/intervention protocol for the treatment of children with language disorders (DOLLI, 2023).
In addition to being the New York Zero to Three Network Levenback honoree, Dr. Gerber also received the Distinguished Clinician award from the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
